Kyoshi Manie and Sensei Summer have structured their school in a very thoughtful, nurturing way, especially for the younger students, where they not only teach them how to use their bodies but also incorporate life lessons like listening and following instructions, nourishing your body, staying safe, and earning privileges. They take their time with each student and meet them where they are at. Over the two years we’ve taken our son, we’ve had so much fun watching him improve over time to become more focused, confident, and controlled. He loves doing their fun drills and sparring, and it’s a joy to see him light up. One of the other things we’ve noticed about this school is that they don’t give out belts every few months just for showing up (and just to charge you). They genuinely care about their students’ development and kids have to earn it. They teach real self-defense and discipline, not just choreographed routines. Overall, we’ve just been so pleased with our experiences there and so glad that we ended up at this studio.
We visited a few martial arts studios before finding Kobayashi. I feel like it’s been a great fit for my 10 year old son. He learns kata and self defense that apply to real life potential situations. Sensei Manie and Sensei Summer instill confidence and respect in the kids in a way that is fun and not intimidating. My son looks forward to coming to class each week.
